In Illumination Unit (2020), Akkel examines the practice of information exchange through social and mass media. The object takes the form of a lampshade, but functions differently from conventional ones.

The light can be accessed only through a single permitted spot — a hole in the object. When the audience attempts to turn on the light, a knife emerges from the opening, pointing directly at their eyes. The form of the object sits ambiguously between a construction element and furniture.
