Land-mine | 2015 | Collage

Land-mine is a collage in which Akkel questions the security methods at Turkey’s borders with Syria and Iraq, focusing on the civilian — particularly children’s — deaths caused by landmines. The work also reflects on the material and moral foundations of the weapons industry.

The A3 collage combines a cutaway technical drawing of a landmine with a found image of meat. Akkel places the meat image over the gunpowder storage area.
